William Jahmal Miller, MHA
Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Dignity Health Mercy Medical Group
Jahmal Miller, as Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), is responsible for all aspects of the administrative, business and governance functions required to implement, support and oversee the professional medical services rendered by Dignity Health Mercy Medical Group. He provides strategic and operational support, consultation, and guidance to medical practice physicians and advanced practice clinicians, while serving as a liaison for financial matters, provider compensation, analytics, contracting, strategic partnerships and health equity initiatives.
Miller previously served Dignity Health’s parent company, CommonSpirit Health, as System Vice President of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. He has also served as Director of Corporate Reputation and Thought Leadership for Blue Shield of California. In addition to leadership roles at Kaiser Permanente and Sutter Health systems, Miller was the Deputy Director of the California Department of Public Health’s Office of Heath Equity, serving as the state’s lead advisor to Governor Brown on issues related to reducing health and mental health disparities and to achieving health equity for all Californians.
Miller is internationally recognized as a thought leader and expert on issues pertaining to health care, public health, health equity, mental health and public policy. He co-led a system-wide CommonSpirit Health partnership with the Morehouse School of Medicine and the National COVID-19 Resiliency Network, sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ Office of Minority Health, serves as a member of the California Endowment’s Board of Directors, and has received appointments to the American Psychological Association’s Presidential Health Equity Task Force (2020) and Health Equity Committee (2022).
Miller earned his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Columbia University, and received his Master’s of Health Administration from the University of Southern California. Western University of Health Sciences awarded him an Honorary Doctorate in Humane Letters (DHL) for his achievements in the field of health and human services.
From a public relations and media perspective, Miller has had a number of opportunities to contribute to several media outlets, including many articles, Op-eds and a recent video and podcast interview done on Woebot Health’s Meeting of the Minds platform entitled What Does Racism Cost Our Healthcare System? Debuting as an author, his new book entitled Equity, Equality & Justice for All was published by Pegasus Books in the spring of 2023.
