Mattie Scott

Mattie Scott, Founder, Healing 4 Our families & Our Nation (H4OF&ON), is a 29-year Veteran Violence Prevention/Intervention Educational Specialist. The tragic death of her youngest son, George C. Scott, 24 y/o and father of two sons, was shot and killed while trying to stop an argument between two friends, at a graduation party in her Western Addition community in San Francisco. H4OF&ON was born out of pain to purpose. We’re here to help navigate anyone impacted by homicide or violence in the right direction, so they would go through what my family experienced. Matti’s purpose is further exemplified by way of her service as President for Freedom West Housing Cooperative where she fights hard for affordable housing for youth, seniors and families of color to prevent the violence of being homeless. She is the proud resident, neighbor and community leader in Freedom West Cooperative Housing for 50 years. From our city to our state and all the way to our nation’s capital, Mattie continues to fight for her community.

Her leadership skills, compassion, and activism, supports individuals, parents, youth, families and communities impacted by senseless gun violence, homelessness, and violence period. H4OF&ON serves here locally, statewide and nationally, working with anyone impacted. Assisting them with funeral arrangements, mental health needs and aftercare support services. We can’t do this alone, and we work with the Faith Based, CBO’s, elected officials, leaders, schools, law enforcement, the incarcerated and formally incarcerated, businesses and communities for real change, real solutions and peace. “Each one, reach one and teach one”, her motto for strengthening families, building capacity and empowering communities. We must “Stop the killing and Start healing” in all areas of violence! Education is key to violence prevention, with economic empowerment, affordable housing/healthcare, mental health services, and justice.

Mattie works closely with both President Biden and VP Kamala Harris. She was invited several times to the White House by both President Biden and VP Harris for her longevity in GVP.  She works with Congresswoman Speaker Emerita, Nancy Pelosi, and was chosen by Speaker Pelosi as a Democratic California Delegate.  She said, “it was an unforgettable honor to be chosen by our Congressional Leader, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi as a CA. Democratic Electoral Elector in 2020, to cast the deciding vote for President Joe Biden and our 1st Black Woman Vice President Kamala Harris on December 14th on the anniversary of Newtown”. President Biden and Vice President Harris invited Mattie to the White House twice last year for signing of Bipartisan Safer Communities Act and again this year, for the 1st Office of Gun violence Prevention ever in our House, the White House. Mattie works closely with Mayor London Breed, SFBOS where Mayor Breed signed the 2nd Ghost Gun ban law in our nation. Mattie was chosen by Dr. Dorothy Johnson-Speight, Founder, Mothers in Charge, as SF Mothers in Charge Chapter Leader. Shikha Hamilton, VP Brady Organizer, chose Mattie as the Brady United Against Gun Violence California President, where she works tirelessly for commonsense gun legislation, accountability, education and justice, that saves lives.  She provides Health, Healing & Restoration Circles for Mothers, Fathers, youth, families, communities, and anyone impacted by violence period! “Hurt people, hurt people” says Mattie and “healed people help people to heal” and that is our goal, to “stop the killing and start the healing now”.  We need everyone on board to help us end this epidemic in our nation. “Each one, reach one and teach one” because this is about all of us or none of us” WE’RE IN IT TO WIN IT & TOGETHER WE CAN! – says Mattie! Mattie works hard daily and is dedicated to bringing about hope, healing, strength, a vision for change, love and peace, because ALL LIVES MATTER!
