Freedom West believes in community outreach, which is why we are committed to participation parity. We bring the community and surrounding Fillmore neighborhoods together for town halls, events, webinars, and more. We’ve also implemented a monthly newsletter to keep the community informed and engaged.

Freedom West Family Day

Freedom West Family Day was a joyous occasion that helped bring families, friends, partners and leaders together to celebrate the multi-generational, multi-ethnic culture and community that is Freedom West.
Holiday Giveaway
December 11, 2021
The Freedom West Alumni Association hosted a daylong festivity as part of its grocery giveaway. A group of 15 volunteers handed out approximately 130 grocery bags of food, including more than 90 turkeys.
Black History Celebration

The Freedom West Alumni Association honored eight longtime residents as part of a celebration of Black History Month.
Mother’s Day Celebration

Mothers from all walks of life took part in Mother’s Day Celebration, which included a lunch catered by Auntie April’s Chicken and Waffles, painting demonstrations from the Honey Art Studio, conversations about love, relationship and empathy facilitated by Pastor Eric Nation, and a special screening of the mini-documentary, “Reimagining Freedom West.”
Father’s Day Celebration

Freedom West dads and their families gathered for a special Father’s Day celebration at the community recreation center. Similar to the Mother’s Day celebration organized by the Freedom West Alumni Association in May, the Father’s Day event featured an interactive painting session, candid discussions on parenthood and other community building activities.
Freedom West Family Day
September 24, 2022
On a clear, sunny day, Freedom West families and others were treated to a DJ set from DJ Willie, live music featuring the Guqin, a traditional Chinese string instrument and lunch from Panera Bread. Representatives from the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management, the Alameda County Care Alliance, the Institute of Aging, and Living Proof365 were also on hand to provide information about their services. A new tradition at Freedom West, Family Day is supported and organized by the Freedom West Alumni Association.
